With Domain Renewals Comes Focus
Today I had the pleasure of renewing a handful of domain names. During this process, I noticed something interesting about my thought pattern. Each domain renewal triggered me to focus on the potential development opportunities for that particular domain name. I found myself strategically plotting a time line to follow for each phase of domain development. In other words the cost of a renewal stimulated me not to waste anymore time letting a domain name sit in my portfolio, hoping for the day that an end-user would come along to acquire it. Domain renewals can be a touchy subject for some domainers and a costly one at that. There are names in my domain portfolio which haven’t been inquired about for years and have simply sat there collecting virtual dust.
The question I asked myself was “What would make these domains that I am renewing more attractive in the marketplace?” The answer to this question is development. It sounds simple, if I want to sell a domain name then I am going to have to add all of the bells and whistles an end-users wants. I have come up with the following motto to operate my domaining business by:
STOP DOMAINING, START DEVELOPING
Until more than 50% of my portfolio has been developed, I will not be registering or acquiring any new names!
