Will The Real Domain Pimp Please Stand Up!

Lately I’ve been reflecting on why I decided to become a domainer and how this blog has actually helped me network with some of the brightest individuals the domaining industry has seen. One of the stories that goes untold till now is how I initially tried to acquire domainpimp.com from its current owner. So sit back, relax and enjoy that Lady Ga Ga album you just downloaded from Itunes.

The story starts in May of 2009. I contacted the owner of domainpimp.com to find out if they were interested in selling the name. Here is the email that I sent on May 18th, 2009:

Hello,

I noticed you own domainpimp.com and would like to purchase the domain from you. Please let me know if you would be interested in selling the name. If not feel free to ignore this email.

Best Regards,

JT

The email that I sent sparked a reply and the domain owner (pimp) sent the following:

JT,

Feel free to make an offer, but am looking to develop the site at this point.

The next day I promptly replied to the email (the domain owner’s name has been blocked out for privacy sake):

XXXX what would you be willing to sell it for?

The domain owner (pimp) replied with the following:

For us to sell now, along with the domainpimp.net companion domain, we’d be looking at 40-50K. We’re building a domain name auction/trading site and we’ve put in about that much so far.

After I received this email I decided that it did not make much sense to try to acquire domainpimp.com for $40,000 when I could register an available domain for less than ten dollars, build the content up and rank for the term domain pimp. Hence, the birth of dnpimping.com which now places on the first page of google for the term(s):

domain name pimp

pimping domains
