Where Do You Picture Yourself As A Domainer Five Years From Now?
On a yacht sipping margaritas with scantily clad belly dancers circling around me. No really! Where do you picture yourself as a domainer five years from now? I really want you to ask yourself that question. Do you have a five year plan? Are you setting goals for yourself each day, week, month, quarter….Eh you get the picture.
Do not get lost in the domaining hype! I repeat, this industry is easy to get lost in. If you are not setting goals for yourself then you are misdirected and will fail. But of course, you are that lucky guy in the casino! You always win and by chance you have applied the same methodology to your domaining hobby or business.
Now I have to be blatantly honest. I am still getting myself organized. The five year plan seems a bit far off, but when I turned twenty-nine I realized that was not the case! In the past two years domaining has turned into a professional venture for me and I must treat it as so. The days where I would hop onto a forum and sell a few domain names every now and then are over. This will now be a small percentage of what I do.
I want the domaining division of my company to operate automatically. I don’t want to put much effort into it! The majority of my effort should be placed within the planning stages, other than that I should be able to sit back and automate every process. This is my main goal and is one of the major points in my five year plan. Although I can’t answer the entire question as of yet, but five years from now I will be running a profitable domaining business which makes money for me while I sleep. Everything from flipping to monetization will be fully automated!
How do I plan on doing this? Well that’s where the day, week, month and quarterly planning come into play. Once I have that figured out it should make more sense, but for now I am developing a plan and an infrastructure to achieve these goals. Lets see what I can accomplish within the next five years, better yet the next couple of months!

Agree – the industry is very easy to get lost (caught up in) – especially the conference circuit.
Is a 5 year plan realistic (honestly)? How about just 6-12 months?
Over the years, I’ve observed many newcomers to the industry…. most think its easy to “swan in” and make a killing. The reality is that they end up losing a lot of $$$.
If you are starting out, its about education and baby steps…

I feel a five year plan is very realistic, but in order to make a five year plan you need to start with weekly and monthly plans. Baby steps are key but there is nothing wrong with planning ahead of time.

Well my 1 yr plan is to have 100 minisites generating 1 dollar plus per day.
So far i have 10 lol.
My 5 year plan would be to have a comfortable income from minisites 150k per year and my fully developed sites making 6 figure incomes.

Sounds like a great plan to me! I am sure you will reach the goals you have set for yourself! Sometimes we lose focus, but that’s true of anything you do in life. As long as you set realistic goals for yourself you can accomplish anything.
Sounds cliche but it is very true. I live my life by this methodology.
