What Super Bowl? I’ve Got Domains To Register!
Yah you heard me right! I had a chance to watch Super Bowl XLIII and it was an awesome game. But guess what? Los Angeles does not have a football team and hasn’t had one for a while so I am always forced to pick a team outside of my city. This year I chose the Vikings and you know what happened with them.
Today was an eventful day for me. I have been on an acquisition spree and lost one domain name in an auction but hand registered another right from a drop. This morning I received a text message from Ron Wells, a good domaining buddy of mine. At 12:18PM he sent the following text:
“Somebody snatched your name {SpinalImplant}”
Ron knew I was actively bidding on this name and when he saw someone else snipe the SnapNames auction he wanted to make sure I knew about it. Too bad I had a long night and woke up extremely late this morning otherwise I would of made a last minute bid on spinalimplant.com a domain name that I wanted to acquire and develop. My father is a doctor and he is pretty much the equivalent of a walking medical dictionary. Since the .net was available, I decided to register that and that pretty much covered the term for me.
Ron said I should contact the owner of the domain name and I did. I had the pleasure of speaking with the new owner and was unable to acquire the domain name. The domain has great potential but I will just have to pass on this one.
Onwards! Lets say that I hate to lose but I always learn something when it comes to situations like this. Since I am on an acquisition spree I decided to do a little more research and this lasted a few hours. I really wasn’t paying much attention to the game, although from what I could see it started off as a good one and ended up a little lop sided. I had my eyes set on the Colts to win, but lucky me I am not a gambler so I didn’t lose any money when the Saints pulled out an upset.
After looking on SnapNames, NameJet, GoDaddy, Ebay and NameDrive I decided to head over to JustDropped and found an excellent domain name. The name which dropped from the registry was RecallInsurance.com, this is a type of insurance that protects companies from product recalls. This is something that happens quite often in the USA and I figured since that is the case this would be the perfect opportunity to register such a domain name. So I lost one domain name and registered another! I still need to decide on whether I should flip the domain name or develop it a bit before I start to shop it around.

Boy, I sure wish i had the brain cells I had when I was 20. I could make up all kinds of keywords then. Well, I blame it on the ’70’s. I wonder if HalftimeTickets.com is still available?

Much of the latest neural implant technology is based on research taking place in the emerging Brain Computer Interface field. From the research arm of the US Defense Dept. (DARPA) to universities and medical research facilities, HUGE dollars are now being spent which will lead to some of the most profound breakthroughs we may witness in our lifetimes. I was fortunate to pick-up BrainComputerInterface.com together with NeuralImplants.com & NeuralProsthetics.com in early 2003. At that time, this technology was flying so far under the radar, virtually nobody was aware of what was coming. That’s all changing now.
Which leads to domaining tip #1:
Attending professional conferences and symposiums (even if it is not related to your educational background or career choice) can provide you with a front row seat to cutting edge technology and a four or five year head start over traditional, mainstream news gathering sources. I suspect many category killers in the making can still be found this way. Plus – if you find the subject matter interesting, so much the better for later website development.
