Profiting Off Of Disasters

Posted On Sunday, March 7, 2010

There is a common occurrence happening in our industry.  Some people are taking advantage of disasters.  Between Haiti and Chile I have noticed a number of folks trying to make a quick profit by selling domain names which could benefit those in need.  Instead of building sites to help those effected by the natural disasters these individuals are looking to profit.

I will go more into this later, but it really upsets me to see such individuals resulting to this.  Has it really gotten to this?  Anyhow, its time to head to bed but I will expand on this recent occurrence later.  I will even go as far to expose those that are partaking in such activity.

Yeah It’s terrible. What I’ve also seen is people using Haiti and Chile keywords and descriptions for their virus sites to score high in google so when people are looking for ways to donate they enter the sites and get their pcs infected with viruses. They featured it on CNN.

That’s unfortunate to hear that. It seems that some people have no limits. This is just another reason for mainstream media to point the finger at those who register such domain names and confuse them for domainers. As if our industry needs anymore negative publicity.

Something should be done with those that register such names and abuse them by trying to make a quick buck.
