My Cat Made Me Do It, Why I registered 14 Cat Domain Names
Today I had a client meeting in my local area. Instead of heading to the office after the meeting I decided to head home, cook a late breakfast and complete a few chores. While completing a couple of chores I spent some time playing with my cat named Sushi. I crushed up some Live Catnip and started to place it on his cat tree scratching post. After watching him play in the pile of catnip and scratching away at the post it dawned upon me!
Sometimes the best things in life are right in front of you. Instead of banging away at a keyboard in the office, I was enjoying every minute with my cat! I then took another look at the products around my house and had an epiphany. I am a cat lover and understand what it takes to care for this type of pet! Why not register some domain names which pertain to cats and the products and services which are geared towards them. That’s when I realized GoDaddy had a $2.99 special on (dot-us) domain names and I started to register away. I was very happy with the domain names and would like to share them with you guys!
Here is a list of domain names that my cat motivated me to register:
CATTUNNEL.US
CATHOTELS.NET
CATBEDS.US
SCRATCHPOST.US
CATPRODUCTS.US
CATHOUSES.US
CATCAGE.US
CATTOILET.US
ORGANICCATNIP.US
CATCARRIER.US
CATCOLLAR.US
SCRATCHINGPOST.US
ORGANICCATFOOD.US
KITTYLITTER.US
The big shocker out of the domains I registered was CatToilet.us! I didn’t realize cats could be trained to use the toilet. I just found this funny and registered it for kicks. Lets see how quickly I can optimize it to rank for the term “cat toilet!”

I agree that you find inspiration for names in some of the normal everyday life activities that you find yourself in. Sometimes the names are great and other times I find myself thinking, “how could I have thought that was a good name.” I guess playing with your pet was the CATalyst for those registrations.

What’s your take on .us domains?
Do results only show in searches generated by people in the us?
I have been considering them for product domain names but I haven’t found credible info to determine their value when using them for mini sites.
Are they only good when the keyword relates to the us? For instance geo domains?

@Mike my cat was definitely the CATalyst! Couldn’t of said it better myself! If I keep registering domains at this pace I will become CATatonic! LOL!

@Marcus I love .org and .us domain names. These extensions are highly misunderstood and have definitely come in handy when it comes to optimization. I am now sure how .us domain names tend to do outside of the United States but from what I have seen they do very well within the US. Maybe someone else can give some more insight onto using them for development purposes in other countries.

Enough of the CATastrophic feline puns!
@Marcus, @Jason – Why would anyone even consider trying to get a .us site to rank outside of the USA?! I live in London, England and wouldn’t expect any of you guys to come across any of my .co.uk sites.
Surely Google, with all its tecnichal wizardry would provide results based upon and tailored to a user’s geographic location and therefore the only extension you do and could reasonably expect to be displayed ragrdless of geographic location is the king….the .com? Dig?

For a moment, I was thinking about dot-cat domains.

Behind every successful domain there is a cat… You never know from where you will get inspiration…
