Domain Spotlight Tuesdays Smogcheck.ca.gov

Posted On Tuesday, November 3, 2009

BAR_LogoHave you heard of the Bureau of Automotive Repair? In California, we have to pass a smog check every two years to renew our registration. The focus of our Domain Spotlight Tuesdays this week is smogcheck.ca.gov, which is operated by the Bureau of Automotive Repair.

I am excited to feature a government based website, because this program actually helps people who are in need. Programs like this make me feel that the state of California cares about its residents as well as the environment. Lets say you live by yourself and earn less than $23,400 per year. The Consumer Assistance Program will help provide you with financial assistance. If you failed your smog check and approve for CAP, the state of California will cover you for up to $500 in repair costs.

With over half a million people currently unemployed in the state of California, programs like this are extremely important. You simply go to www.smogcheck.ca.gov and download the CAP_APP.pdf which is a well laid out form answering the majority of questions you may have about the program. Once you are done filling out the form you send it off in the mail and within a couple of days you will receive a voucher good for up to $500 in repair costs. The main stipulation is the repair costs will only be covered if it is an emissions related problem. If you have other issues with your car that do not pertain to this, then you will have to get this fixed out of your own pocket.

*This domain or sub-domain for those who want to refer to it by the appropriate name is one thing that the state of California has done right! Now only if we could get a break on the annual fee for franchise taxes!
