@Attila getting rid of those loser domains are important! Its tough to see what the future holds for certain domain names. Sometimes its just the luck of the draw or drop.

Nice deal, NameJet can truly be an amazing asset if used correctly. Glad to see you were able to capitalize on such a name. Pick wisely is great advice!

You know, I had that same train of thought of getting rid of sore loser domains or domains or no further use. I let one domain expire and 6 months later I was chatting with web developer friend of mine and he told me he wants to get into the new volution templates business. I told him “damn, your not lucky, I let volusiontemplates.com expire months ago”

Another instance, I won a domain at NameJet that I didn’t really want to win. I didn’t know wtf the domain meaning was (upwar dot com), but it was short and $69. Later someone emailed me offering me $200, I replied $3k, he wrote $500 a week later and we made a deal.

So pick wisely which domains you’re wanting to drop and which to keep and possibly resell. Never know, one day you might have a buyer for a nice price.

Great post, I couldn’t agree more! It’s important to always keep a critical eye on costs and let low potential domains drop. I’m also very hands on with my taxes!

I do agree that a smaller portfolio could do better then is we go in 500 domains and figure out half of them are worthless and won’t sell to other domainers or to end users. be smart and work smart.

@Ron Wells we are all guilty of it! That is a great bright side. I know for a fact you sell a great deal of the domain names you have registered, so you are definitely doing something right! There’s nothing wrong with having a large portfolio if you are able to monetize it the right way!

Excellent point Jason! I have to admit, I am totally guilty of registering waaaay too many names.

But looking on the bright side, I am starting to cut back on registering as much as I used to about 6 months ago.
