Auto Renew Confessions

I must confess! On Sunday, September 13th GoDaddy.com automatically renewed ten domain names in my portfolio for the total amount of $91.70! Since I was planning on letting these domain names expire or planned on renewing them with discount codes I felt as if someone had snuck into my back pocket, pulled out my wallet and went on a small shopping spree! The only problem in this case is that the person must of been my clone! In other words that naive person was me.

Why do I call myself naive, because at the time of registering these domain names I told myself that I was inseparable from them and that the only way someone else would receive such prized possessions would be if they pried them from my air-tight portfolio or shelled out enough cash for me to sell the domains. Whelp, none of those scenarios occurred and a year later I found myself calling GoDaddy to state my case. I called the infamous 24/7 billing line (480)505-8855 and prepared my mind to wait on hold for an unseen amount of time. Hah! I have to slightly chuckle about this as there wasn’t much of a wait at all nor did the customer service representative combat me. He simply said I can take care of that for you, but first I will need you to log into your account and check the domain names that you no longer want, once this has been done then select the delete option. He kindly warned me that the domain names that I delete from the portfolio will not have the option to be renewed.

I went ahead and followed the customer service rep’s instructions and almost immediately received an email from sales@godaddy.com refunding the ten domain names that had auto renewed. GoDaddy’s excellent customer service inspired me to write this entry, I knew that there was a reason why I had moved the majority of my domain portfolio to the company. I had big plans for these domain names, but as with the majority of my portfolio my attention tends to divert towards the domain names which I consider to be top tier. Since this is the case I have decided to concentrate the majority of my efforts on fully developing the top tier domain names. GoDaddy was very helpful in this process and I can’t thank the staff enough for being such an asset to the domaining community.
