48 Hour Contest – Help Me Pick A Domain For My Blog! Click To See Grand Prize!
This is the first contest we have ever held here at DNPIMPING.com and it just might be the last! Confused? Don’t be, I have decided to let the domaining community participate in the re-branding process for this blog. Its time for me to create a more professional image! Over the last month I had the chance to speak with some of the greatest minds in the domaining industry and ended up with mixed feedback. Therefore, I will ask you the readers to help with this process.
So what is it that you need to do?
Help me choose a new name for the blog! Keep in mind this will be my new identity online. It is an important task I know but nothing that a $20 gift card from GoDaddy won’t solve! Here are a few of the current options that I have come up with:
JasonMeyerThompson.com (I’ve Registered This Name)
JasonThompson.la
JasonThompson.in
JasonThompson.mobi
JasonThompson.tv
You don’t have to select a domain name listed above, these are just sample domains which I found available. If I had my way I would choose JasonMeyerThompson.com, but I’ve been told that the domain name might be too long and it would pose a problem for those who don’t like typing in long domain names in there browsers.
To put it simply, all you have to do is either select a domain name from the list above or provide one which is similar that would work well for the new domain name. Also include a small explanation of why you feel that the domain name you have provided would work. I am looking for your opinions here, so there is no wrong answer!
After 48 hours I will take a look at all of the replies and select a winner! The winner will be contacted by the email used in the reply form. Help me with this process and the winner who provides the best name and explanation will be rewarded! Thanks to all of you for taking the time to help with this process!

Hmmm…
First instincts from above, although I am a stubborn .com dude, I would say JasonThompson.tv..especially with the success of Justin.tv..(although get JasonThompsonTV.com too if you choose that route…look at this http://justintv.com/
lol)
I also like this a lot..SoCalDomainer.com (it dropped)
btw good meeting you at the SoCal Domainers Meetup on the 26th..This is Tony and I have a business card too now

@TC you’ve included some very good choices here. I also like the SoCalDomainer domain as well, but I want the rebranded blog to be more than just domain names. I plan on talking about marketing, affiliate programs and hosting as well.

If you have a nickname….that is professional, use it w/thompson. Or use an alternate form of Jason. The following are available as I type this:
JTHOMPSON.ORG
JTHOMPSON.US
JASTHOMPSON.COM
JACETHOMPSON.COM
JASETHOMPSON.COM
Good Luck,
Todd

I suggest, “DNjason.com”.

you should definitely use jasonthompson.tv. The .tv extension will help the branding effort and be quite compatible with the obvious surge in video content ( u can give short how to vids and interviews etc). Besides that the .tv extension ties in well with what i like to call the “holy quadity” which in your case woukd be 1) jasonthompson.tv 2) jasonthompson.tv/facebook 3) jasonthompson.tv/youtubechannel and 4) jasonthompson.tv/twitter of course you can add the Linkedin as well. This way you have 4 low cost easy to manage/update means of distributing content, reach potential endusers/partners anchored on the .tv extension with the implicit understanding that your content is interactive and video centric. Not many blogs in the domaining world utilise video (except for morgan linton) it is still relatively untapped.

@adinfinite you’ve definitely made a great point here. This is something I will have to think about. If I decide to make more videos in the future, it would make complete sense to reg a .tv, but if I don’t go down that path then I have another domain name on my hands which is collecting dust. Should be interesting!

Hi Jason,
Personally I like “dnpimping” but if you feel you need a change, my second choice would be:
ThompsonWire
Explanation:
The expression allows immediate and obvious symbolism with an expressway to connect to the Internet.

@Jorge the name has grown on me as well. The more input I receive highlighting the points you have specified, the more keen I am to stick with the name. There is a chance that I keep the name as well. The entire purpose for this contest is to receive feedback from the community and really take that feedback to heart. Thanks for the submission and I completely agree with you.

Why not rebrand yourself as JMeyerThompson.com, it’s a bit shorter than JasonMeyerThompson.com, still a dot com, and this form of name has worked well for a large ad agency.

how about the ThompsonFactor.com ?? … … j/k of course!
If you’re dead set on the firstnamelastname.tld i really like .la over the other extensions you listed, basically because i dont know of anyone else doing .la. it would definitely stand out. plus it being a ccTLD and a stand-in for Los Angeles, it kind of makes it both local and global at the same time.
if you want to stick with dot com though you might try for something like the above suggested ThompsonWire, ThompsonInvestments, ThompsonWeb or similar. … or theres always JTJournal.com ??

@Mike you make a good case for the .la extension, that’s exactly why I was thinking about considering it. Since I am an LA native and currently reside in Los Angeles I figured that domain might be a no brainer. I’ve got a great deal of pondering to do. Should have a bit more clarity tomorrow in regards to the direction I want to take this. Thanks!

48 hrs to create new identity will be very short period. I guess you must have spent more time on it. If not please do. I am emailing the name which could suite your new identity.

i would stick with .com unless its a domain hack. i wouldnt use .tv for a domain blog unless the blog is about .tv domains and i wouldnt use .mobi for a domain blog unless it was only about mobile domains. no offense but i think all of the 5 that you mentioned including the .com suck lol. i think DNJason.com that another person mentioned would be a decent one.

Just my 2 cents, but I REALLY like your current site name and theme. Things are too serious these days (I’m a culprit here too). It’s refreshing to visit your blog and I wouldn’t change a thing. Moreover, your avatar is really catchy and hard to forget!
All the best,
Ian

@PPC Ian if there is anyone that knows online marketing it would be you! I’ve thought about it as well and keeping the current site name is a realistic option. We’ll see if that happens or not. Thanks!

I would go with JasonMT.com but seemed to have been registered recently. You could try talking to the owner and acquire it . JasonMT.com will be really easy to remember and well as to type. The alphabets are spread out so lesser spelling mistakes.

Clearly I would stay away from using an acronym with a word like several have suggested. Not only does it look unprofessional, it is confusing.
Going with firstnamelastname and anything less than JasonThompson.com is 2nd tier. Since it appears you do not own it, I would go a different route.
Use a single word (.com) that doesn’t really have a strong meaning for something specific. I do not know what you own, nor your budget so it is hard to suggest.
Use a descriptive 2 word (.com) that does have meaning but is generic. A couple examples based on domains I own would be something like:
KickedBack.com
SimplerThings.com
It would be ideal to have “domain” in it, but it doesn’t have to. If you look at most domain blogs, most do not have domain in them.

Dotnomics.com (I own this own but willing to sell it)

I think you should change your name since there already are several famous (or semi famous) Jason Thompson’s. Just kidding, of course, or not kidding if it is something you consider and will help me win

Unfortunately it looks like CoffeeSeeds.com is regged so that is out.
Go with something flexible as a blog as well as a potential company name. All these are available at time of posting but might want to snap them up. Both personal and brandable. Good luck.

You seem like a pretty nice guy, but I find your current name off-putting. Pimps are the scourge of any culture, who beat their prostitutes and sometimes even kill them–not funny at all and not professional.
Do you really want to be associated with such scum?
I think you’re right to change your image and hope that you do so.
Best of luck in choosing a new name.

@Ms Domainer
I appreciate the input, but I am a bit alarmed with what you have stated. The word “Pimp” has taken on a new connotation. This has been utilized by popular TV shows such as “Pimp My Ride.” It has a double meaning now.
Just as in the Pimp My Ride TV show they take junk cars and turn them into amazing vehicles. You can think of me doing the same thing. I acquire domain names, build them out and add monetary value to them while doing so. In theory I am “pimping” these domain names.
I just wanted to explain my angle for the name, it had nothing to do with what you are referring to as scum. My image is pretty positive as the normal readers of this blog can decipher between what is real and what is fictional.
Thanks for sharing your view on the subject matter.
